Heavy Metal Music "... is about shutting out the tensions of life, putting it away" (Tork). Since its origins, heavy metal has been considered music for those trying to get a message across, whether its about social problems or economic issues, metal fans have always leaned towards music as an answer and relief from their everyday issues. But those outside of this music fan base have negatively stereotyped the genre as "witchcraft lyrics, incomplete thoughts, fragments intended to plant ideas into the listener's subconscious mind" (Stewart). Does the music affect people and their behavior? Should we blame Heavy Metal music for the violence and corruption that seems common in today's youth? Music in general has affected people's personality, whether its good or bad depends on each person but studies have shown that fans of heavy metal music show different personality traits as well as physical aggression and body reactions allowing the stereotype of this "devil worshipping" music to seem accurate and more acceptable to the outsider's eye.
